Tightening Things Up
All this month as I have struggled with a severe flare up of my fibromyalgia, I have watched events unfold world wide. Throughout everything, as I have sought the LORD and prayed by the Spirit, I believe He is clearly laying it upon the hearts of His people to first of all tighten up our relationship with Him. Oh how we tend to become busy AND just plain lazy about taking time out of our schedules to engage in intimate communion with HIM, the Guardian of our souls, our Savior, LORD, Rock, Refuge, Strength, Shepherd, Advocate, and so much more. He simply must be our ALL in ALL, and we cannot afford to let our guard down for a minute. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand.]” Psalm 91: 1 It is my firm conviction that we who are truly followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, who are His captives and bond slaves must be living testimonies of a people who walk out Psalm 91. I heartily exhort you to read it every day no matter how well you know it for it will indeed sink deeper and deeper into your spirit until you are a living, breathing example of what the disciple of Christ should look like. As we commune deeply with Father and Son, their LOVE is imparted to us so that blended together with the confidence imbued by the 91st Psalm we shall also be living expressions of the Heart of God. Then, my dear brothers and sisters, we are not only fortified ourselves but have the essential element of Christ Himself to pour out to all. We all know I Corinthians 13 also…”Faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.” How deeply have we allowed these two beautiful chapters of sacred scripture to permeate our whole being? Let us ask ourselves this question daily.
It is indeed a time of unprecedented stress for all with the economic disasters affecting us in personal ways and knowing that the times ahead will very likely not become any easier. Some of us are thinking the “If only I had” thoughts. Well, some did not pay off homes, avoid using credit cards, make profitable investments, save money, etc., so let us move on and press into the ONLY ONE Who is able to move us through the problems facing us each day. Isaiah set his “face like a flint” (Isaiah 50:7) and so must we in order to press through every obstacle fully aware that the Lord JESUS is right by our side. Please check that awareness-status moment to moment. Are we perceiving that He is really right there or have we run on past Him of our own accord? Oh LORD have mercy on us and empower us to surrender to Thy will every moment of every day. This is the only way we shall survive this hour in history! You know it, brothers and sisters, and so do I. May we take ACTION today. You might enjoy reading “Enjoying the LORD” on this website.
We simply must tighten up our expenditures and set money aside in a safe place at home. Buy only what is truly needed. As the “holidays” approach in this world’s system, let us not be pressured in the least by them… decorating, buying elaborate gifts, preparing expensive foods, and all of the rest. Even those in the world are cutting way back…”tightening things up,” so how much more should those called to a first fruits company demonstrate frugality and separation from ALL that Babylon represents. Thanksgiving is truly a beautiful day, but the rest is all pagan and not for Israel! Let us each re-evaluate how we respond to these secular beliefs and traditions. We honor the LORD’S birth every day deep within our hearts. That is our gift to Him! Is it not about HIS birthday? It is definitely not mine and probably not yours either! One gift to JESUS is the most perfect that we can give…His own LOVE flowing right back to Him! How this ravishes His Heart.
We must tighten up our ability to transcend suffering! We all know there has been much of it in years past, most are burdened now, and I believe that there is a great deal more on the horizon. Whether that distress be physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social or in any other area, we need to tighten up the skills which we have learned along the way to ease it all. A treasured friend of mine recently wrote a short blog on taking mini-vacations, and that is exactly what I have done to cope in recent months. There are favorite places that I go here in Oregon that are within minutes of my home that lift me up so high that before I know it I feel in tight union with God. There is the place that I simply call the “high place” which is a butte from which you can view the entire Cascade Mountain Range. It is not only of spectacular beauty, there is also a profound silence up there. The glorious Indian Summer sunlight made me completely forget about my pain for a while. I picked fall grasses and weeds for table ornaments. It was wonderful. There is also the quiet of the desert to the east and the thrill of roaring mountain streams. Yes, I am so blessed here, and within all of this are God’s little (and not so little) creatures. No matter where you might live, there must be someplace that has elevated your spirits in the past…a park (pack a lunch and sit there in the car if it is too cold!), an art museum, an aquarium, a library, a café or a myriad of other places I can think of. Going out of our way, if only for a brief time, to these healing places, will enable us to transcend some of this suffering. Exercise (if possible) releases endorphins that will bring our ehtire being into balance. And, of course, prayer, WORSHIP, and the Word of God are the most healing things that I can think of!! GO THERE! Let us rise up and get out of ourselves!
I sense it is an hour to tighten up our relationships within the Body of Christ. I actually know of situations where political differences have caused a breach in friendships. This is truly deplorable behavior in the Church! In his devotional The Glory of God and the Honor of Kings by Thomas Kissinger, the author speaks about LOYALTY. “…fellowship is glorious, wonderful, and strengthens us tremendously, but this same fellowship becomes dangerous when loyalty is not involved.” This concept was taken by Kissinger from Ten Dangerous Possessions by Bill Britton and among them is fellowship without loyalty. We surely do not “cut someone off” because he or she does not favor the same political candidates that we do. In fact, politics is totally of Babylon!! If we are to be “in this world but not of it,” how does any focus on the political arena affect a people holy, consecrated, and set apart? Why it surely should not involve us at all! Our citizenship is NOT HERE! We might be led to pray Father’s perfect will over elections, and we should pray for our leaders, but to become fiercely enmeshed in it is to me unthinkable. I have many friends who would rather entertain themselves with Rush Limbaugh in the mornings than to sink into the depths of JESUS CHRIST through early prayer and worship!! Yes, this is happening in spiritual Israel!!
Others are divided over slight differences in theological orientation, but whatever the differences, we simply must be a truly loyal people and tighten up our relationships.I was sent David Wilkerson’s last paper on coping with the “end times.” ( For us they herald a glorious NEW BEGINNING!) One of his main points that was that forgiveness is the most important thing that we can have to prepare. No one in the Bible spoke of stockpiling goods, although some of us might be led to do so in moderation. (This must not become an idol!) The whole point was that the condition of our heart is more important than ANYTHING ELSE for the times in which we find ourselves. This message truly spoke to me. Let us each make it a point to release forgiveness wherever we harbor resentment or even slight misgivings. NOW!
Regarding the “end times” David also quoted I Peter 4: 7,8″ “But the end and culmination of all things has now come near: keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer. Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others].” And how shall the world know us? JESUS said by the love which we have one for the other!! Where do I fall short today?
It seems that along with relationships should come tightening up our mouths! We know so well what James says about the tongue: “But the human tongue can be tamed by no man. It is a restless (undisciplined, irreconcilable evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who were made in God’s likeness!” (James 3: 8,9) The power of the tongue is SO STRONG that with it we either bless or curse, speak LIFE or DEATH on every word that we speak. So let us THINK before we speak and practice HUMILITY and GENTLENESS and MEEKNESS. Yes, we do have POWER, but it is HIS POWER and not our own, and that power must be cloaked in these other vital attributes.
Then we must tighten up our thought lives! From His prison cell dear apostle Paul penned out these words which we have probably memorized but still do not walk out! “For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds of them].” (Philippians 4:8) Is there one of us who is not convicted and reproved by this message? It is a scientific FACT that we become what we think on and that our thought lives can even affect life and death. Thus, our very physical well being is dependent upon positive thinking…the first one being a spirit of profound gratitude. If we do not praise God daily that we were indeed chosen by Him, we are remiss. Have I done this today? Let us take an inventory of our thoughts and our verbal utterances each day. Do they truly reflect our faith, hope, and love? “Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ!” ( II Corinthians 10:5) And may we definitely allow the Holy Spirit to transform us by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2) Let us press on towards perfection in each of these areas until we are a truly exquisite replica of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. (Matthew 5:48, I Peter 1:22, Ephesians 4:13, Philippians 3:14)
May we unceasingly pray tenderly for each other in all of these things. (Ephesians 6:18)
In His LOVE,
diana
“He must increase, but I must decrease. [He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so].”
(John 3:30) This is truly our BATTLE CRY.
